Our Mission

About Us

The Sanders-Brown Center on Aging was established in 1979, and received funding in 1985 as one of the original ten National Institute of Health (NIH) Alzheimer’s disease Centers. Soon after, the University realized that in addition to the support from NIH, private donations would allow the Center to sustain and develop new and innovative clinical research projects and patient and caregiver programs. In 1986, the Center on Aging Foundation was established as a fund-raising entity for the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. The original members of the board immediately went to work obtaining support from corporations, foundations and individuals to assist in the continuous work of the center.
The UK Center on Aging Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Gifts made to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by law. The Foundation accepts gifts of any amount and does not determine the use of gift funds. Funds raised are allocated according to restrictions established by donors. If gifts are made without donor restrictions, allocation is determined by the University.
A new mission and vision statement for the Foundation was approved in December 2014 as part of the Strategic Planning process for Center on Aging Foundation Board. If you would like to learn more about the Foundation, or ways to get involved, please contact our office at 859-323-5374 or email lisa.greer@uky.edu.
